Buttercream frosted and semi naked wedding cakes are definitely the style of choice for couples of the 2020’s. Whilst they are the perfect look for the popular barn and outside tipi and marquee venue they are also a modern style for all contemporary weddings. They are most often decorated with beautiful flowers but think outside the box too as fresh fruit and all types of other decorations vary the look and make them easy to personalise to colour scheme and the look and feel of your wedding.
We offer these cake styles in a range of sizes, tier flavours can be selected from our full range of sponge flavours and as we largely provide a blank canvas to which floral, fruity or other decorations are added we have standard price lists for these cake styles. Email us on info@catherines-cakes.co.uk with the date and venue of your wedding so that we can send them to you.

Semi Naked Wedding Cakes
Semi naked wedding cakes are naturally beautiful, any flavour sponge cake is covered on the top and sides with a smear of buttercream so that the sponge cake is visible. So often decorated with flowers as in these beautiful examples. We usually recommend that your florist supplies some extra flowers for the cake so that they match the rest of your wedding flower theme but we can also work with or supply artificial flowers if that’s your preference.

It doesn’t have to be flowers – we can use fresh fruit for a delicious looking alternative to flowers or combine fruit and flowers. What about adding drips or decadent edible gold or silver leaf or pimp up the display options and use a beautiful decorated hoop stand or a personalised topper or even a model of your naughty pet tucking into the cake at the base or back!
Buttercream Frosted Wedding Cakes
Buttercream is the way to go taste-wise for many couples these days and is becoming more and more popular. A buttercream frosted wedding cake can give a rustic look similar to the semi naked style or can be much more formal. This look suits any style of wedding and venue from the most rustic of barns to the most elegant of stately home or 5 star hotel.
These are also most often decorated with fresh flowers and couples often add a topper or monogram cake charm to personalise the look. Again the tiers can be any flavour from our range of sponges and the buttercream frosting can be super smooth or perfectly lined or more rustically textured – it’s your choice!

Again there are lots of alternatives to flowers in terms of decorations as well as other effects including coloured buttercream detail, drips, edible gold and silver leaf and edible organic wild flowers. Please ask us for more details and options as the longer these styles of cakes are the most popular out there the more innovative we get with what we can do with buttercream!
Combinations
We’re always happy to explore combinations of different coverings – here are some examples where we’ve mixed semi naked, buttercream and sugarpaste (fondant) over different tiers to great effect!

“It was hard to believe how real the flowers looked, they matched Julia’s bouquet exactly! It was stunning and just what they described to you. It was a wonderful centerpiece to a fabulous day and was also absolutely delicious, so a huge thanks for everything you did and to everyone involved with creating such a lovely cake.
